Seeing the humiliation of her husband by her father, the Goddess Sati could not bear this. Sati ended her life by jumping into the Havanakund of the Yajna.

When Lord Shiva came to know about this, he became furious and decided to take vengeance from Daksha Prajapati. Shiva reached the place where this Yajna was happening. 

He took out the dead body of his wife and placed it on his shoulder and started taking the Tandava (the dance of destruction) as he made his gigantic form.

Seeing Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu left his Sudarshan Chakra, causing many body parts of the goddess.

The fragments of the body of Goddess Sati fell in many parts of the country, which are known as Shaktipeeths. 

It is said that the womb and vagina of Goddess Sati fell here, and this Shaktipeeth has been constructed.
